OBSIDIAN WORLDS

Black is not the absence of colour. It is the beginning of everything.

Most artwork begins with colour. I wanted to see what happened when I took it away.

Black demands something different from an artist. It doesn't hide mistakes. It doesn't flatter. Every mark, every layer, every texture has to earn its place and sometimes things appear that you had no idea were there!

These pieces are not illustrations. They are not paintings.

They are worlds. They are built layer by layer, surface by surface. Resin, texture, paints and light working together to create depth where colour no longer leads the conversation.

Every piece explores a different question.

What happens when a rainforest leaf becomes a shadow?

What happens when texture becomes the subject?

What happens when black has to tell the story?

The only thing I know for certain with each piece is that black will be the palette. Everything else is discovered in the making.
