Story of the Piece: Where Light Falls
There is a moment on the rainforest floor that lasts only seconds.
A break in the canopy. A shaft of light. Vines, leaves and fungi emerge from the darkness before disappearing again. It is a moment that cannot be held - only remembered.
Where Light Falls captures that fleeting encounter.
Built layer by layer using texture, acrylic and resin, the work asks the viewer to slow down. Details are not revealed all at once. As light moves across the surface, leaves emerge, shadows deepen, and hidden forms quietly appear. The artwork changes with the time of day, rewarding those who look a little longer.
This is not a painting of the rainforest. It is an invitation to experience the way light transforms it.
Created in Far North Queensland as part of the Obsidian Worlds series, Where Light Falls continues my exploration of black as a beginning rather than an absence. It is a reminder that sometimes the most beautiful things are only revealed when the light finds them.
