Story of the Piece: Midnight Reef

I was putting the bins out.

That's the truth of it. I walked past the veranda and stopped. The kitchen light was catching my new reef piece - just, and it came alive in a way I hadn't seen in daylight. The glass beads sparkled. The coral ghosted through the dark. The fish felt alive! The whole thing glowed like something from the bottom of the sea. Even I stood there in awe of the reflections and the transformation happening right there on my own veranda - something I had made with my own hands becoming something I had never quite seen before. That's when she got her name.

Midnight Reef was built from years of slipping beneath the surface of the ocean - in many places around the world and Australia. Every element is placed by hand on tempered glass. Hundreds of beads. Reclaimed glass plates. Shells and coral from these waters. Each one chosen, each one permanent.

In daylight she shows you everything. In the dark she shows you something else — something many people do not get the privilege to see. The reef at night.

Two worlds in one piece. Neither complete without the other.
