Story of the Piece: Remnant

The Predator doesn't take prisoners. He takes spines. And leaves remnants behind.

I am Gen X. We snuck into cinemas and drive-ins. We watched Sigourney Weaver face things that shouldn't exist and come out the other side. Alien. Predator. Later, Alien vs Predator. Nothing was really off the table and we were better for it - sharper, braver, with a healthy respect for the dark and everything that lives in it.

But there's something deeper in my love of the macabre than just genre. I was a reader from the time I could hold a book - Lord of the Rings at twelve, anything that would take me somewhere else entirely. Fantasy, horror, the strange and the dark. I read to escape. I read to survive. I built worlds in my head because the one I was living in needed leaving sometimes. That impulse never went away. It just found new materials.

The Remnant is built from resin, a 3D printed Predator figurine, handmade and painted skulls, a spine with blood detail, and local quincan and driftwood - because even in a dark world, this place finds its way in. The base is dark resin, poured and finished to feel like the ground after something has happened here. The Predator stands in command of it all, completely certain of his place in the order of things.

For those who know, this piece needs no explanation. For those who don't — welcome to the dark.

It's warmer than you think.

Remnant is the first in a trilogy of Dark Worlds pieces - this Predator, a second Predator to come, and finally an Alien vs Predator scene. Three pieces. No more. The trilogy will be complete and then it will be closed
