Story of the Piece: The Jetty
I've been jumping off jetties my whole life as recent as 2025 in Bali!
Frankston Pier as a kid — that particular mix of terror and joy before you hit the water. Fishing lines dropped off timber planks somewhere I can't quite name anymore. And now Palm Cove, where the jetty stretches out over the Coral Sea and the light does something extraordinary in the late afternoon that makes you understand why people never leave FNQ.
Water, always water. And always a jetty leading you to it.
This piece is a quiet afternoon. A boat tied up and waiting. A tree. A stone that has been in a river long enough to have quartz running through it like memory. Blue resin water so still you half expect to see your own reflection.
Nothing is happening here. That's the point. The boat will go out again — it always does — but right now it's tied up, and the water is calm, and that's enough.
